So, you’ve finished your manuscript, what now?

Amazon KDP is a FREE service for writers. But beware, there are myriad businesses out there which ape the Amazon concept, rebrand it, masquerade as publishers, drool flattery over potential customers, issue extravagant promises of future sales and literary stardom, and charge a fortune for a service which Amazon provides for nothing. They should be ashamed, but I suspect they are too busy counting their money to reflect on moral issues.

Free though Amazon may be, it’s necessarily complicated. It was a steep learning curve even for me, with all the experience and tools at my disposal. And then there are all the traditional skills required to produce an attractive and professional publication: design, typography, editing, proofreading. I studied for five years at art school. Practiced design and copywriting for thirty-five years and taught design at three universities and my first book was (conventionally) published in 1975 (yes, I’m that old). On retirement I began writing. I completed my first novel a couple of years ago. I’ve written two more since.

So, if you’re in the market for stunning cover design and clear inspirational typography delivered by someone highly qualified in book design, knows his way around Amazon, and views things from a writer’s perspective then I’m your man.

My fee for paperback and eBook design and setting up the client’s Amazon Kindle account is probably the lowest out there at £380. But, being retired and with few overheads, also a sucker for a sob story, there’s room for negotiation. My most recent project came in at under £200. I also offer an editing and coaching service, so at whatever the stage of your writing project, you are invited to get in touch.
