John Idle

I offer proofreading and copy-editing. I set up my proofreading business and website after I saw a display by engineering students, whose ideas were superb but whose explanations of their projects were full of mistakes. I had always known I had an eye for detail, but this made me realise how I could use it in a practical way.

Since then I have proofread novels, non-fiction and academic work. I have been commended for noticing things other proofreaders didn’t pick up – not just typos but inconsistencies and factual errors.

I always check the author’s or publisher’s brief, making sure I have understood their particular instructions for this job, and how they want me to present my corrections and queries.

Alongside my proofreading I have been a full-time parent for many years, home educating my three children who can now look after themselves. I have also worked for probation and in youth work. I bring my broad general knowledge and experience into my work, as well as more specialist knowledge of geography, sport, religion and science. When not working I enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction, play sport and try make the most of the beautiful Isle of Wight where I live.

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.

Please  to see my website, https://accuracy-works.com/ where there is more information there about my work. It also has testimonials from some of my other clients, and a blog where I share some of the insights that have arisen in the proofreading jobs I have done.
